L. Smith, a New Orleans native and Austin military dependent transplant, is a writer, multi-certified, master reading teacher and interventionist of all grades; a graduate of Texas State University, with a degree in mass communications, advertising focus, with writing minor; and a Johns Hopkins University Master of Arts in Teaching Writing graduate. She has traveled internationally as an Air Force brat and across the United States as a technical trainer. She has written media plans as an advertising media planner, has freelanced for Central Texas newspapers and websites, and edited business plans. As a Texas teacher, she has taught English, reading, and history to students with various educational needs (including special education and trauma-impacted students) in various Central Texas school districts and has achieved recognition for her results in improving student reading comprehension and writing skills. She lives in Austin, brought there per her father’s military duty. She is a mother of one beautiful, resilient daughter, (one anti-social Chihuahua), daughter of a ride-or-die mother, and has a collection of poetry and prose to be published in 2022. L. Smith writes this blog for writers, like herself, who teach writers.
